Sun Prairie was named by Augustus A Bird who lead a group of men from Milwaukee to build a capitol for the then Territory of Wisconsin. It rained all the way until their reached a prairie east of Madison, then the sun was shining. Bird came back a few years later to become the first settler of Sun Prairie.
